Born, raised, and educated in Ireland, Dr. Nolan completed his orthopedic residency at the Mayo Graduate School of Medicine in Rochester, Minnesota.
Dr. Nolan joined Anchorage Fracture & Orthopedic Clinic in 1974. He had a social interest in joint replacement surgery and general orthopedics and was the first surgeon to perform total knee replacement surgery in Alaska. He was also the first in Alaska to use spinal instrumentation for a spine fracture.
Dr. Nolan was the Alaska state representative to the national American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons Board of Councilors for six years. He served on the strategic planning committee for the Providence Health Systems for four years and is a past president of the Providence Alaska Medical Center medical staff. He was also a clinical instructor for the Alaska Family Practice Residency Program.
