Dr. Gregory Schumacher serves with a select group of doctors who have qualified to provide professional care to the U.S. Ski Team (USST)
In this role, Dr. Schumacher works with the USST and Olympic athletes including Anchorage’s very own Kikkan Randall, who in 2012 was the Overall World Cup Sprint Champion and 5th Place Overall Winner. Dr. Schumacher’s overall role is to provide excellent medical care and assistance to the elite athletes and staff members of the US Ski and Snowboard Association (USSA).
To qualify as a team physician for the USST, physicians must complete a thorough screening and qualification process. Once identified and appointed as an active pool member, these physicians must take part in ongoing training courses in Medical Emergencies in Skiing and Snowboarding (M.E.S.S.). In addition, they travel annually or semi-annually with an Olympic team.
