"Dr. Mentzer has been wonderful through three different surgeries (bi-lateral carpal tunnel, locked trigger thumb and then two locked trigger fingers on the right hand) and I trust him with the next two I'll need on the left hand. Nurses are super nice, proficient, and apparently totally enjoy their jobs! This says a lot. Zachary Ritter, P.A.-C. is fantastic working with Dr. Mentzer (and loves his job there! He said Dr. Mentzer is so nice to work with). All have been great with excellent treatment professionally and on a personal/patient relationship level." – Edith G.
"I had the injection procedure to correct Dupuytren's Contracture. Dr. Mentzer explained the procedure well and I am very happy with the result." – James W.
"My experience with Dr. Mentzer, and all of his staff, exceeded every expectation I had in choosing him as my physician. They are extremely efficient and stay on schedule which is a rarity at best in the standard Doctor appointment. I also truly appreciate how friendly everybody was that I dealt with in the office. I never felt like just another no name patient file that was being shuffled through the office. Doctor Mentzer and PA Zachary Ritter always listened to my concerns, and presented me with my options for treatment explaing in great detail what was causing the issue, and how we could fix it in terms that I could understand. My surgery was flawless, and the follow up care and concern was beyond compare. I would absolutely recommend this office to anyone seeking care with 100 percent confidence they will be as happy as I am after my experience." – Sandra P.
"Excellent experience!" – Donald H.
"I had a cyst on my wrist so my primary doctor referred me to AFOC. I was scheduled with Dr. Mentzer for surgery. Everything went great, along with the few appointments with the therapist after surgery. There were some issues with my insurance and the billing department worked with them without me needing to keep calling. I will recommend Dr. Mentzer and AFOC." – Darilyn Y.
"Rotator cuff repair. I appreciated the explanations of various aspects of my surgery, such as the models of the shoulder joint showing the location of various tendons. The amount of pain and discomfort I experienced was less than what I imagined it would be. Everyone was great, doctor, anesthesiologist, nurses, clerical staff." – James V.
"Dr. Mentzer was patient, thorough and he was immediately available to meet my need. I trusted him thoroughly, his background in wrist repair is outstanding and his work shows it. I am so grateful for Dr. Mentzer. The staff at AFOC are so in tune with my needs, so much so they checked up on me during the holidays and kept the lines of comminication between my doctor and myself open at all times. Thank you all! My wrist has healed excellently!" – Cheryl J.
"From the receptionist to walking out I had the best experience in a doctors office ever. The environment is warm and inviting as well as every staff member I encountered! A 5 star experience without a question!" – Richard L.
"Dr. Mentzer is kind and and makes you feel completely at ease. He explains what the surgery will entail and what you will have to do in order to have the best results. Every one in his team made me feel that this was a group project with each having their own part in my recovery. I'm just waiting for my time to have my other thumb done." – Kristin
"Had "golfer's elbow", though I don't play golf. Old injury from working construction for 20 years of my life. Received 3 cortisone shots with just temporary relief. Decided to have Kurt Mentzer and his team to perform surgery. Here it is 2 months later, and my elbow has never felt better. Had bothered me since my mid 20's and I'm 62 years of age presently. Doctor Mentzer is the absolute best, as far as I am concerned. His support team also. Professional, caring and exemplary performance. No need to waste a worry with Doc Mentzer. Just get whatever procedure needs done and get on with your life. Thanks Kurt and Jackie!!!" – Leland B.
"Breaking both of my wrists on a cold winter holiday weekend found me beginning my year by meeting Dr. Mentzer on a Sunday night. During a brief meeting in the emergency room, he told me what he needed to do and what I could expect and worked through the night to surgically repair both of them. I can't say enough about the courtesy, professionalism, and care I received from the entire staff at AFOC, from the initial meeting and mad skills of my doctor to the friendly and comfortable treatment all the way through my ordeal. From the front desk to physical therapy to final billing, they made what was a traumatic injury and major disruption in my life easier to navigate and got me back to doing what I love. As a writer, photographer and artist, my hands are an essential tool, and I have the greatest respect for Dr. Mentzer, who to my mind is an artist in his own right." – Don N.
"Dr. Mentzer was fantastic and very down to earth. He was genuine in his approach and very detailed in the process of care and recovery, not to mention doing a great job in surgery. I would highly recommend him!" - Martin G.
"I fell walking my dogs on an icy trail. After a quick visit to Primary Care Associates in Eagle River, a fracture was identified. I called AFOC the next day. The phone attendant said the next available appt was a month out. That afternoon, Dr. Mentzer's nurse Jacqui Starr called to schedule an appointment for that afternoon at 3:30. I saw Dr. Mentzer and a plan was created to repair my wrist with surgery scheduled for the following Friday. It all happened so quickly. I was truly impressed with the coordination between Primary Care, AFOC and the surgery center. They recommended Select Physical Therapy for my Occupational Therapy. I participated in 18 sessions with the OT whom I liked very much and my wrist has recovered dramatically. Thank you for making the experience as hassle free as possible. I would recommend AFOC to everyone experiencing an orthopedic emergency." - Sarah W.
"Was able to get in and see Dr. Mentzer in an emergency and he explained everything to me about what I had damaged after my bike accident. Then scheduled surgery and felt he did a excellent job on my thumb and shoulder. Dr. Mentzer also explained to me what I could do to help my healing process so I could get back to being active." - Suelyn V.
"Since 2014, I had 5 surgeries performed by Dr Mentzer. All surgeries were performed with skill and professionalism. The after care has been nothing short of exceptional. Each surgery was explained fully and correctly. Dr Mentzer went out of his way to give me a briefing of what to expect, when to expect it, and why it would happen and what he would do in each case. Summation: who would be involved in my surgery and recovery." - Titus A.
"Dr. Mentzer treated me for palmar fascial fibromatosis, also known as Dupuytren's contracture. This involved injecting a solution into my right hand at the base of the palm and the next day manipulating the cord and knot that had formed over a number of years, until the knot "broke." I was a little nervous, but Dr. Mentzer's treatment was gentle and reassuring, and the procedure was no more painful than receiving a shot. Dr. Mentzer's nurse, Jackie, clearly explained the type of therapy I would need to restore full range of motion, and provided a list of providers when she learned the AFOC therapy department wasn't in my insurance network. I'm thrilled to have full use of my hand again. You could say that Anchorage Fracture & Orthopedic Clinic "held my hand" every step of the way!" - Susan B.
"Dr. Mentzer and his staff, Jacky and his new PA have been extremely professional on all accounts. Very flexible with their schedule. Additionally, there is a large vote of confidence in Dr. Mentzer's clinic that is dedicated to facilitating your recovery and fixing what ailment you may have. Very encouraging to see and now as always I will be an advocate for Dr. Mentzer's surgical/skills. Lastly, the surgical day was great. The anesthesiologist who placed my block catheter was excellent, the RN seeing me in the morning and checking me in the front desk lady was great as well. The CRNA Kelly Rygh was awesome, I didn't have a sore throat or nausea. Pain was controlled perfectly. My anesthesia provider was the best. Thank you. Everyone on the surgical day was very warm and welcoming. Very nice to hear, and see. Dr. Mentzer chooses wisely he knows very good people. Thank you sir. A big final thank you again to Jacky and everyone that helped her as well." – David K.
"No surprises, everything went well, and lots of support" – James M.
"In 2015 and early 2016 Dr. Mentzer fixed several issues as a result of falling off a roof of a cabin on the Yentna River. He did surgery on a wrist and collarbone and I found him and his staff to be very professional, courteous and competent. I was seen promptly on follow-up visits and my questions were answered or addressed in a manner easily understood. In 2014 Dr. Prevost replaced my left knee, a replacement originally implanted many years before by Dr. Nolan. He and his staff were also very professional. Both physicians continued positive experiences from being treated originally by Dr. Nolan and Dr. McEvoy years before because of left knee problems. (I was also briefly a patient of Dr. Dean for a minor hand problem and was pleased with her course of treatment.) So from my experiences with the Clinic in the past, as I continue to break down and break new things, I will be a loyal and frequent patient of the Anchorage Fracture & Orthopedic Clinic." – Frank W.
"After seeing my general physician, having a set of X-rays on my left hand and having physical therapy on my hands for pain in my wrists and thumb joints, with no success, I saw Dr. Mentzer. He suggested that I have X-rays done on my right hand as well. It was apparent at that time that I had arthritis in a bone, at the base of my thumb on both hands, which was causing the pain and also needed a carpal tunnel release. We decided to do my dominant hand first. Surgeries and hand therapy were successful on both hands. As time goes on I realize how painful I had been and have been able to return to activities I had given up on. Overuse does bring some discomfort, but I am not constantly protecting my hands like I use to. I am thankful for Dr. Mentzer's knowledge, expertise and caring attitude toward me as his patient." – Lyndee W.
"Mentzer was a very cordial M.D. I could not have been more pleased to have him and would recommend him for wrist surgery. My Son-in-Law brought me in the day before surgery and he had great comments about how he handled the information we needed, also my daughter was there when I had surgery and she was impressed with his character. I have 9 or 10 pins in my wrist and have had no problems. He even shared that I may not have full mobility because of the break. BUT I DO, which I account for his great work and I also was very good about doing my exercises the therapist recommended. Which I believe is also a very important part of the healing." – Phyillis A.
“After seeing several doctors about issues I was having with my hand and shoulder, I was referred to Dr. Mentzer. I decided to have Dr. Mentzer perform surgery on my hand and shoulder. I cannot express how happy I am that I choose Dr. Mentzer. Both of my surgeries were a complete success. Him and his staff are friendly, accommodating, and truly professional. I would recommend anyone having hand or shoulder problems to consult with Dr. Mentzer and his staff. Thank you.” – Skipp B.
"I came to Dr. Mentzer with a fractured wrist, which the ER doctor recommended him. Dr. Mentzer has been wonderful. He and his staff are wonderful and very professional. Dr. Mentzer performed surgery on April 22nd, and did an amazing job. The work he did on my wrist and forearm was extensive and complex. I can barely see the scar. I continue to see Dr. Mentzer and a specialist he recommended because I developed CRPS because of my injury. He is a first-class amazing doctor, and I would gladly send any friend or family to him for treatment." -- Lisa M.
"Dr. Mentzer came highly recommended from a good friend in the medical field. He is a top-notch doctor with great communications ability. Can't ask for much more than that." -- Bill B.
"I was very pleased with all of my interactions with Dr. Mentzer. He has a great bedside manner, and I felt comfortable with his knowledge to work on my hand. The result of my operation has allowed me greater movement and grip strength to my damaged fingers. I would gladly recommend him, and would use him again in the future, but hope I never need him!" -- Alissa C.
