"I have been seeing the staff at Anchorage Fracture & Orthopedic Clinic as a patient since 1997. Dr. Ryan has given me two new knees, my right in 1997, and my left in 2011. He also performed a hip replacement for my left hip in 2010, which unfortunately was recalled by the manufacturer only a few years later in 2012. In 2013, Dr. Prevost removed the recalled hip implant and gave me a second new hip. Also in 2013, Dr. Prevost did a total shoulder replacement on my right shoulder. Dr. Prevost then did a total shoulder replacement on my left shoulder in 2014. Not to be outdone, Dr. Peterson repaired significant degradation in my lower lumbar spine to correct severe arthritic and disc damage. He was also able to correct nerve impairment in my right hand in 2014, which was caused by the extensive use of crutches in the past several years. I cannot forget the great PA-C's, who were always there to help me, especially David Wonchala, Glen Welker, and Kimberly Hand.  After each of these procedures, I was skillfully guided to a sound recovery by the wonderful staff at the Anchorage Fracture & Orthopedic Clinic physical therapy offices.  Thanks to the able hands and skill of Annette Rohde, Yasmin Lechtenberg, and Holly McClure, I had terrific guidance on how to get back to daily activity. I can't say enough about the caring and kindness each of the nurses and office staff showed in my many visits. The doctors, nurses, physician’s assistants, physical therapists, and office staff are my favorite people. Without them, I have no idea how miserable my life would have been. I can never thank you enough." -- David S.

"I was very pleased with all of my interactions with Dr. Mentzer. He has a great bedside manner, and I felt comfortable with his knowledge to work on my hand. The result of my operation has allowed me greater movement and grip strength to my damaged fingers. I would gladly recommend him, and would use him again in the future, but hope I never need him!" -- Alissa C.

"I developed pain in my elbow as a byproduct of bone spurs and calcium deposits within the joint that prevented my ability to straighten my arm. I also had sharp pain with a certain athletic movement. Dr. Lapkass diagnosed and recommended surgery for removal in January 2014. Recovery and rehabilitation took place until June 2014, and as of August 2014, I have regained full motion without any pain. Although the recovery took a lot longer that I had planned, I now enjoy adequate range of motion and am pain-free." -- Nick K.

"Dr. Lapkass is a sweetheart. Surgery wasn't the run of the mill type. I had a reverse total should replacement. He has been very caring and personable as well as committed to my well being. Thanks Dr. Lapkass." -- Susan P.

"The first time I met Dr. Lapkass, I saw him for my shoulder. I had been to a previous doctor and received an injection, but still had pain. A friend of mine recommended Dr. Lapkass to me, so I went to see him. He gave me an injection in a different area and my pain went away. I recently had partial knee replacement 7 weeks ago. Throughout my office visits and my surgery, I have been more than pleased with Dr. Lapkass' knowledge, professionalism, and bedside manner. I feel comfortable and at ease with him. He explains things in detail and has a sense of humor too. I will be using him as my orthopedic doctor in the future when the time comes to repair my shoulder." -- Vickie M.

"My experience at Anchorage Fracture and Orthopedic Clinic was very easy and painless. Every person I saw was very helpful and friendly, and they walked me through all of the necessary steps for a speedy recovery. I am happy to say that my broken arm is as good as new, and I am able to enjoy activities like rock climbing!" -- Haley K.
"I really like Dr. Schumacher. He was a great doctor. He helped me with my knee and took the time to explain things to me. I would go back to him any time I need a doctor like him." -- Candy C.
"On November 26, 2013, I was teaching a gymnastics class, and while demonstrating a twisting flip into the foam pit, I rolled my ankle and landed at the bottom of the foam pit. I heard a loud pop, but figured I just sprained the ankle or tore some ligaments. The next morning my leg was purple, so I hobbled into Anchorage Fracture Orthopedic Clinic for some x-rays.  As I was trying to put my shoe back on, Dr. Thomas came in and went over the x-rays with me and discussed options for surgery to repair the breaks in my ankle. I had broken the condyle of one bone completely off and the other side of my ankle was like a broken picket fence board. As a crossfit athlete and gymnastics coach, I was devastated. I had a powerlifting competition coming up in two weeks and I knew I wasn't going to be doing any competitions for a long time, if ever again. Paige Cripe and the AFOC staff were so helpful and gracious to help me take care of all of the preparations for the surgery, wheeling me down to the surgery center, the lab, and taking care of all of the paperwork for the insurance process. I was in shock and denial and the staff at Anchorage Fracture and Orthopedic Clinic were compassionate, comforting, and answered all of my questions. After surgery, and after three long screws were inserted into my ankle, Dr. Thomas and the staff maintained close contact and follow-up procedures to ensure my healing was going as scheduled. Despite my impatience as an athlete and wanting to push the process, I stuck to the instructions from Dr. Thomas and I am stronger now than I was before the injury. One year later, and I have already competed in a powerlifting meet and won my age group at the Fairbanks Fitness Derby in August, all pain free! Thank you, Dr. Thomas and AFOC staff for your excellent care and service!" - Karen A.
