Dr. Schumacher's website

Dr. Greg Schumacher was born in North Dakota and raised in Wisconsin. He attended the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado where he earned a degree in Biology. He then returned to the Midwest for medical school, internship, and  residency in orthopedic surgery, all at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

After his education was complete, the Air Force stationed him at Elmendorf Air Force Base in Anchorage, where he served nine years and built a thriving practice in sports medicine and joint replacement. He left the service as a Lieutenant Colonel, veteran of the war in Iraq, and Elmendorf's Chief of Orthopedic Surgery. During that time, he also worked at the Alaska Native Medical Center managing orthopedic trauma.

In 2009, Dr. Schumacher joined AFOC, where his practice continues to grow. His interest in sports medicine remains strong, and he constantly strives to improve techniques for knee, shoulder, hip and ankle arthroscopy, ligament reconstruction, rotator cuff repair and correction of shoulder instability. He also takes special pride in his meticulous and compassionate approach to joint replacement. In addition to his clinical work, he is the President of the Anchorage Orthopedic Society.

Dr. Schumacher has spent a lifetime pursuing aerobic sports, which now serves him well as he chases his three children around the Nordic ski trails of Anchorage. He coaches soccer for the Boys and Girl's Club with his wife Amy, a Pediatrician at the Alaska Native Medical Center. An avid fishing family, the Schumachers can often be found on the Kenai River in the summer.
